Mean Reversion on EUR/USD: What Algo Traders Actually Optimize

Bollinger fades, RSI snaps, grid hybrids — how mean reversion bots behave on EURUSD and when they stop working.

EUR/USD mean reversion is crowded because the pair mean-reverts in ranges often enough to fool backtests. Algos typically fade extensions — Bollinger touch, z-score spike, RSI 30/70 — with tight targets back to a moving average.

Failure mode is trend days: ECB surprise, risk-off USD spikes, sustained rate divergence. Stops must exist; “infinite averaging” grids are mean reversion in name only and martingale in practice.
